2019 HCA Tyrann Mathieu “Heart of a Badger” Skills Camp is Quickly Approaching

By Hard Count Athletics, 04/23/19, 3:00PM PDT

Hard Count Athletics (HCA), the nation’s leading youth sports organization, will hold the second of its 2019 youth flag football skills camps on May 19th at the New Orleans Saints training facility in Metairie, Louisiana, with Kansas City Chiefs cornerback and local New Orleans product Tyrann Mathieu. This will be the fourth year in a row that HCA has worked with Mathieu to present the annual “Heart of a Badger” skills camp to local area youths in the greater New Orleans area. This skills camp, which is free and open to any youth athlete, filled its 400 slots in record time this year.

HCA holds its skills camps, like the Tyrann Mathieu camp, at locations throughout the country each year to allow youth flag football players all over the country to get the opportunity to learn from the best. Our skills camps offer youth flag football players from across the country the chance to interact directly with some of the NFL’s brightest stars, such as Mathieu or Chiefs All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who hosted the first HCA skills camp of the year in February 2019 in San Diego.  HCA skills camps give both the NFL players and our young athletes the opportunity to have fun and learn together while enabling our young athletes to master the fundamentals that helped our NFL athletes make it to the top level of professional football.

The 2019 Tyrann Mathieu HCA Skills Camp

After starring at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Mathieu played college football at Louisiana State in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He earned the nickname “Honey Badger” in college at Louisiana State University for his blond hair and quickly gained a reputation as one of the toughest and most outstanding defenders in all of college football. In 2012, his sophomore and second year of college football at LSU, he won the Chuck Bednarik award for the most outstanding defensive player in college football and was a finalist for the prestigious Heisman Trophy, a very rare feat for a defensive player.

Since being drafted by the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft, Mathieu has made a splash at football’s highest levels, being named an All Pro and competing in the Pro Bowl in 2015, just his third year in the league. Despite a number of injuries, Mathieu has earned a well-deserved reputation for his toughness, playing the most snaps of any player in the entire NFL during one of his five years with the Arizona Cardinals. Mathieu is also active philanthropically, having started the Tyrann Mathieu Foundation to help make an impact in the lives of financially disadvantaged youth in his hometown of New Orleans.

The 2019 Tyrann Mathieu “Heart of a Badger” skills camp will be held at the New Orleans Saints training facility just outside New Orleans on May 19th from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Like all of HCA’s skills camps, it will feature the opportunity to meet Mathieu in person and work with him on the fundamental skills that have helped make Mathieu so successful as a professional football player. Youth camp participants will have the chance to work through an intense series of skill and agility stations to assist our young athletes to improve their speed, footwork and some of the other skills most vital to success in youth flag football.

More about HCA and Its Skills Camps

Hard Count Athletics skills camps were created to give professional athletes like Tyrann Mathieu and youth flag football players who may be aspiring professional athletes themselves the chance to train together and inspire one another. We do this by removing traditional camp restrictions to allow the young flag football players and our professional athletes the chance to interact as much as possible. The number of camp participants in each of our 4-6 annual camps is limited to 400 to ensure that every participant gets sufficient time at each station and also gives our celebrity athlete an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with each camper. The next camp in our 2019 series will be with strong safety Tony Jefferson of the Baltimore Ravens at Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, California on Saturday, June 22nd. Registration for the Tony Jefferson HCA skills camp is free and open to the first 400 participants who sign up, so if your son or daughter is interested in an excellent opportunity to meet an NFL star and learn from the best, register today.

In addition to our youth flag football skills camps with some of today’s brightest NFL stars like Tyrann Mathieu, the youth flag football tournaments organized by Hard Count Athletics permit youth sports teams from across the country to hone their skills against some of the finest competition from around the country in a format that encourages safety, player participation and skills development.

If your child is interested in competing against other young athletes to be his or her very best in one of HCA’s youth flag football tournaments throughout the country or developing his or her skills in an intensive yet fun skills camp environment through a camp experience like the 2019 Tyrann Mathieu “Heart of a Badger” Skills Camp, all the while doing so in an engaging format that emphasizes character development just as much as skill work, contact Hard Count Athletics today at
